FTC fined Lindsey Duncan $9 million for deception. You can read about it in detail HERE

You can read the case details on the FTC’s complaint HERE.

This is not a good sign for me.

Pro’s and Con’s

The Good:

→ 11+ Years In The Business

→ Return Policy

The Bad:

→ Success Rate Is Very Low With The MLM Business Model

→ Lawsuit On The Ex-CEO

→ Expensive Products

→ Higher Joining Price

→ Monthly Sales Quota (100 PV or $100)

→ To Make More Money You Need To Recruit More People

→ High Competitive Niche

Is Pure A Pyramid Scheme?

Technically we can’t call PURE a pyramid scheme. You have the products to sell and you can make money by selling Pure products. Although they have products the emphasis is more on recruitment.

Is Pure A Scam? - Is Pure A Pyramid Scheme?

As mentioned in the above picture often people on the top make more money with the MLM companies and the people on the bottom make less or lose their money.

Is Pure A Scam?

No, Pure is not a scam and they have many products to sell and make money from it but they are quite expensive.

Some Of The Things I Like About Pure

Below you can find the things I like about Pure…

11+ Years In The Business

They are in the business for 11+ years, that’s good news. Although they faced some challenges they managed to solve them and they are still running the business.

So Pure is not a company that will vanish once you join and you can have peace of mind that they will be around.

Return Policy

I liked their return policy. That too if you return after 30 days also still you will receive 90% in-store credit minus original shipping and handling. That’s amazing.

Some Of The Things I Don’t Like About Pure

Below you can find the things I don’t like about Pure…

Lawsuit And Complaints

Deceived People?

Drop Pounds Fast Without Diet Or Excercise?

Some of the claims made by Genesis Pure in the past got them into trouble and questioned their credibility and reliability.

A weight-loss fad. You can read the article HERE.

The FTC recently settled a case against marketer Lindsey Duncan, alleging he and his companies deceived people by promising they could “drop pounds” fast without diet or exercise — just by using their green coffee extract products.

For more information click HERE.

Expensive Products

When we ask how MLM’s are offering a lot of ways to make money with them, they often say that there is no need for a budget for advertising. So they can provide many bonuses to their members who promote them.

The question is why most MLM products are very expensive. Why they are not able to offer their products cheaper compared to those who spend millions on advertising?

I have reviewed many MLM companies and I often noticed their products are quite expensive. Similar products with the same kind of benefits are a lot cheaper compared to MLM products.

As I mentioned this is not the case only with Pure but with many MLM companies, their products are quite expensive.

As you know very well, often people who join the MLM companies promote the products and business opportunities to their friends and family members.

How they will feel when they came to know that the products you sold are very expensive?

Are you comfortable selling expensive products to your friends and family members?

Independent Business Owners Of Pure Are Struggling To Make A Decent Income

It is always advisable to check the income disclosure statement of an MLM company. It will reveal and provide you with information on the earnings of their members.

I am really sorry to bring the bad news for you. Most of the IBOs of Pure not even making an average income. The below information will give you an idea of what I am talking about…

  • 64.2% of active IBOs average earnings are less than $150 per week.
  • 81.3% of active IBOs average earnings are less than $390 per week.

This is way below the average weekly income.

Is Pure A Scam? - Average Weekly Income

You can look at the 2018 income disclosure statement of Pure below…

Is Pure A Scam? - Pure Income Disclosure Statement

You can read their Income Disclosure Statement HERE.

Joining Price Is Very Expensive

Although they say apart from $25 no purchase is required to get the full benefits and commissions you need to purchase any of the below packs.

They have 3 packs…

  • $449.95 (300 PV)
  • $699.95 (500 PV)
  • $1899.95 (1500 PV)

Also, you need to make a purchase or sell products worth $100/100 PV monthly (PV – Personal Volume).

If you are able to sell products worth 100 PV every month you are on a safer side or else in order to qualify for commissions you need to buy the products yourself. This is where people lose their money.

Obviously, your upline will advise you to buy the higher package.

If you are going to buy the least package means it will cost you 25+449.95+1200 (if you are not able to sell 100 PV worth products to others). At least, it’s going to cost you a minimum of $474.95-$1674.95.

You can imagine the amount you need to invest for the remaining packages.

High Competitive Niche

Health and Wellness niche is a highly competitive niche. There are already 100’s of MLM companies and 1000’s of people looking for new customers to promote their products and recruit them to their team.

So promoting MLM products are not going to be easy because many people are really afraid of MLM companies and their products.

While doing the MLM business model I have noticed people who start running when they came to know that I am going to recommend MLM products to them.

Trust me I followed all the guidelines like “sharing instead of selling” mantras.

Monthly Sales Quota

You need to purchase at least $100 worth of products from Pure monthly in order to remain active and qualify for your commissions. Whether you are in need or not you need to buy their products.

When I was doing MLM business although I am not in need or I already have enough products still I need to buy their products in order to qualify for my monthly commission.

Many people because of the auto shipping and monthly sales quota lose their money. Especially beginners.

Success Rate Is Very Low With The MLM Business Model

Not only with Pure with all the companies that use the MLM business model the success rate is very low.

A lot of people are losing or making very little money with the MLM business model. Only a small percentage of people will make a good income via the MLM business model.

Success Rate Is Very Low With The MLM Business Model.

For more information, you can read my post “Network Marketing vs Affiliate Marketing – Pros And Cons“.

I am not against the MLM business model and I am not saying you can’t earn money with MLM. All I am trying to say is the success rate with MLM is very less and many people fail with MLM business.

Is Pure A Scam? - Success Rate Is Very Low With MLM Business Model

Among the 26% of people who made money nearly 14% made less than $420 a month (less than $5000 per year). So you can see a very less number of people make money via the MLM business model.

Often they are the people who joined when the company started and who have a big team under them and they are on the top of the ladder.

To Make More Money You Need To Recruit More People

If you notice most of the people who earn good money are the ones who are in the top rankings and they are the ones who joined in the early stage.

To make more money you need to be in the higher rank and to be in the higher rank you need to have a big team under you and to have a big team you need to recruit more members or push the members in your team to recruit more people.

So recruiting people plays an important role in any MLM business model.

  1. Thanks for a detailed review of Genesis Pure! I appreciate that you don’t recommend this platform to anyone who really wants to make money online, building a multi-million dollar brand of their own. I was once a network marketer promoting some health and wellness products and can testify that network marketing isn’t the way to financial freedom. I’m glad I am currently working on a site and hoping to become financially free in no time.

  2. First of all, thank you for posting the considerations needed before signing on to a company such as cost, legal history, success ratio and checking for reviews.  I’ve been saved a number of times just by doing a quick Google search before joining a company!

As for Pure, holy cow!  A $499.95 buy-in and $100 required monthly sales?  I’m amazed that people will shell out that much money on faith alone.  Not to mention the fact that the only people who ever manage to be successful are the people at the very top (i.e. not you).  It may not be a scam, but I’d steer clear anyway.  Thank you for posting!

    • True! Doing our homework or research can save us a lot of time, effort, and money. Well said, the people you are at the top make more money with the MLM business model. Pure joining price is very expensive.

  3. Hi Paul,

I enjoy exploring opportunities in the wellness niche. But I honestly have had negative experiences with MLMs. It’s not that I wouldn’t join one again in the future, but I would surely have to think it well. Now this other platform you mentioned at the end of your platform sounds good. Can I still work in the wellness niche if I join that platform? Thanks.

    • Yes! Whatever your passion or interest you can build your website on your passion and turn your passion into profits. That’s the beauty of this business model.

  4. I am not a big fan of MLM even though I know people who have been very successful at it. What kind of annoys me sometimes is when people talk about “pyramid schemes” where the people on top make far more than the people on the bottom.

The reason why this is interesting to me is that this literally describes every single corporation out there, the top executives make far more than the 9-5 workers do on the bottom. If you draw up their business model, it is in a pyramid shape, just like MLM. The biggest difference between them and a company like PURE is they are not focused on recruitment, however, when you look at it they are a pyramid too.  Basically what I’m saying is that almost every single system that works, including military, government, and 99% of corporations are all pyramids.

The difference with MLM is that the ones on the bottom can get on top based on the number of recruits they get and/or products they sell. While only 3% of people in MLM make real money, you can honestly say the same thing about millions of the bottom-tier workers in a normal corporation.

    Reply
    • You are correct! The top on the ladder make the most and the people who joined in the early stage are in the safe zone. Not all people are rich, not all people are successful, not everyone is making money online.

However, the success ratio with MLM is very low and that’s one of the reasons I am not a fan of MLM’s business model.
